Community Advocacy

As a partner agency with the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children's Hospital, CHOICES began offering on-site domestic violence advocacy services in January 2004 to caregivers of child sexual abuse victims, as well as individuals with a need to talk in person. As CHOICES continues to refine this service to best meet the community's needs, an additional collaboration was established with Volunteers of America from 2006 through 2008.

Beginning in 2009, we've instituted a partnership with Legal Aid that places a CHOICES advocate within the Legal Aid office and a paralegal within the CHOICES shelter. We've also initiated a pilot program with the Bexley and Dublin Police Departments. The Second Responder Program provides a CHOICES staff member who would visit the scene of a domestic violence call after the police have intervened and secured the site. This additional service provides immediate assistance for victims of domestic violence, including linking them with community resources, developing safety plans, and providing general support following incidents.
